Permanent makeup lip blushing, also referred to as lip blush tattooing or micropigmentation, is a cosmetic tattoo procedure that provides long-lasting color and definition to the lips. It is performed by a trained technician using a specialized S-PMU machine with an extremely fine nano needle to implant semi-permanent pigment into the superficial dermal layer of the lips. The technician will select pigments that closely match the client's natural lip color and undertones but provide a touch of vibrant color like a stain. Popular shades tend to be on the cooler side, including rosy pinks, plums, berries, and red-browns designed to resemble a natural flush of color. Peach and nude shades are also requested. The technician will use a topical anesthetic to keep the client comfortable during the 1 hours to 2 hours procedure. Using a lining technique, they will deposit pigment along the lip's edge to define the shape. Then using a shading approach, color is saturated into the main body of the lips starting from the cupid's bow and working outward. A blending method diffuses the pigment for a soft, diffuse stain. As the pigment heals over 5-7 days, the color will lighten by up to 50% into a softer, more natural looking flush. Results last 1-3 years depending on the client's skin and lifestyle. The color will gradually fade over time, requiring a touch up to restore vibrance.
